Vans Style 36, now known as the Old Skool, debuted in 1977 and was the first Vans shoe to use the now famous Vans Sidestripe. Originally referred to as the "jazz stripe," the Sidestripe began as a random doodle created by Paul Van Doren and is now an unmistakable hallmark of the Vans brand and its Vans Classic line.
